Part of a 3-week program entitled 'On n'arrête pas de commencer', Grand Magasin invited me to 'make a start at something'.
I decided to test my potential as a psychotherapist, and installed a consultation room (including paper tissues) in one of the dressing rooms of the theater. Audience members enlisted for a 25 minutes individual session.
I started every session by stating the 5 reasons why our session was doomed to fail.
1. My not being a genuine psycho-therapist.
2. The sessions being too short (I heard the real deal should at least take 45 minutes).
3. The sessions being free of charge (some financial transaction is a conditio sine qua non apparently).
4. A long-time perspective for follow-up sessions lacking entirely.
5. The session being held in French, despite my not speaking and understanding it very well.
Once these preliminary warnings were out of the way, I had several very good conversations with people I had never met before. I told myself that I should do this more often.
