MAKING THINKING TALK - Producing Discourse: The Other Art?
SPIN proposes this event as the third in a series of evenings to encourage critical discussions around different urgent questions within art practice today.
Critical discourse has become an indispensable element of artistic practice. How do artists go about producing this discourse, and how does it relate to the creation of their artistic work and its content? Who is the discourse meant for? Is it useful for artists to articulate reflections on their own work, to open up a conversation with an audience or to position themselves in the field? Should artists be more active in the production of discourse, constructing their own critical tools?
In this season's third and last SPIN night different approaches to the production of discourse are lined-up, and both artists and theoreticians are interrogated about formats and conventions of discourse on art.
Diederik Peeters invites Dieter Roelstraete, Michael Van den Abeele and Everybodys, and presents a screening of a film by Anton Vidokle. Andros Zins-Browne is present in prerecorded spirit.
Michael Van den Abeele is a visual artist working and living in Brussels, and explains how his discursive texts became part of his artistic work.
Dieter Roelstraete is a curator at the MuHKA, and has published extensively on contemporary art and related philosophical issues. He talks about his views on discourse, and his ways of producing it.
Nicolas Couturier, Frédéric Danos & Manon Santkin present EVERYBODYS and invite you to a performance / game called Générique.
Andros Zins-Browne is a choreographer and writer living in Brussels, and will be present not in body but in (discursive) spirit.
