4 evenings, 4 apartments, 4 next door neighbors, 4 different programs designed by the dwellers – all in (almost) one street in Brussels! The hosts of each apartment will open doors to their private space and to ideas, aesthetics and atmosphere they would like to have in it. Everybody is welcome to witness, participate, discuss and to have a good time on our sofas! Entrance is free, drinks are cheap and the company is wonderful (as long as we have YOU there).

We are happy to join the festival tradition which takes place simultaneously in several cities this year: Madrid, Berlin, Zagreb and Brussels. More info on livingroomfestival.wordpress.com

Since audience capacity is limited, reservations are mandatory and can be made on livingroomfestivalbrussels@spinspin.be

FULL PROGRAM

Monday | 19.12.11
SOPHIE'S LIVING ROOM / STUDIO
'Stone can speak to us – it speaks to us through the wall. It looks rough but it's smooth to touch. This wall has become my lifelong companion.' - Le Corbusier revealing his affective relationship with the wall in his studio.

19:30h
OPENING SONG
19:45h
Johan Wambacq: THE BRUNFAUTS (lecture)
In his book "Het paleis op de heide", Johan Wambacq tells the story of architect Maxime Brunfaut, modernist, socialist and utopian, and of one of his iconic buildings, the Sanatorium Joseph Lemaire in Tombeek (Overijse, Belgium). Maxime and his father Fernand Brunfaut designed three characteristic buildings in the neighbourhood where the Living Room Festival 2011 takes place, a.o. the building where the lecture will be given.
20:30h
A LIVING-ROOM OF ONE'S OWN
A living-room inside a living-room. A virtual tour into another apartment in Brussels and into the minds of those who live there.
21:00h
Zhana Ivanova: B-SIDE
Considering how our lives are largely driven by notions of worth and purpose, Ivanova is concentrating on things which have been rendered marginal and useless. She is making lists of everything that appears to no longer fulfill its function, and aims to figure out a way to make the discarded somehow significant again. In The B-Side she presents some items from her lists and attempts to put them to good use.
(with Zhana Ivanova and Mariangela Tinelli)
23:00h
After hours at the local Brazilian bar TIRA TEIMA

-

Tuesday | 20.12.11
HANS & CHRISTOPH'S LIVING ROOM
'We borrowed the name Mystic Belgium from the wholesale clothes shop underneath and took it upstairs into our beloved living room. In the space that we left empty we had always imagined our own Salon Mystic in which friends would unveil the mysteries surrounding their art works.'

19:30h
OPENING SONG
19:45h
Manah de Pauw: LA WALLIFORNIE
Manah Depauw will share her vision on the future of Belgium in an prophetico-political intermezzo: a reading performance with lots of slides about 'La wallifornie'. (Don't forget your life-vest!)
20:15h
Oto Nkanga: SONGS FOR THE MOMENT
21:00h
A LIVING-ROOM OF ONE'S OWN
A living-room inside a living-room. A virtual tour into another apartment in Brussels and into the minds of those who live there.
21:15h
MIREILLES
'Mireilles' is a performance in the form of a 'musical' -a cross-fertilization between Jacques Demi and Vanessa Beecroft- and consists of a series of sung scenes in which some lookalikes of Mirreille Mathieu are being staged.
23:00
After hours at the local Brazilian bar TIRA TEIMA

Ongoing
Christoph Hefti: ARMAND
The owner of the oldest gaybar of Antwerp tells the story about his life, from wartime gay life till the tacky 80's, always around and in that little bar called "Strange". He pities the gays of today with their internet connections, and remembers happily the ships that came into the harbour, unloading sailors from allover the world.
Julie Lenaerts: HOUSEWIFE ART
Julie Lenaerts' work is inspired by a lot of stuff but especially by small found objects, complicated and detailed machinery and funny coincidences. She creates playful and poetical installations. Smallness scattered around. Her work needs a closer look.
For the living room project she will show some degreased replicas of famous housewife art.
Einat Tuchman: MAKE ME
Einat will arrive just in time, but not without a little drama, just as we know her.
Cathy Weyders: RAFT
The rising sea levels and global warming are central in the work of visual artist Cathy Weyders. For the Living Room Festival, one of the rescue rafts will be accessible to the public, in case emergency exits should not longer be accessible from the fifth floor.
Adva Zakai: THE BOOKLET OF ACCIDENTAL KNOWLEDGE

-

Wednesday | 21.12.11
DIEDERIK'S LIVING ROOM
'Because I don't really live in my apartment any more, but rather in my girlfriend's, I thought it would be good for the energy of the place to stuff it with some good artworks and some nice people.'

19.45h
A LIVING-ROOM OF ONE'S OWN

21.00h
Adva Zakai: THE POINTER
A short performance introducing you to the Living Room Dance Company.
21:30h
Harald Thys & Jos de Gruyter: TEN WEYNGAERT (film)
Ten Weyngaert (2007) - "vineyard" in archaic Flemish - is the name of a community-centre in Vorst, Brussels. In the capable hands of Thys & de Gruyter it serves as the fictional setting for a morbid experiment in community-building, where a giant black spider spins a web of strange power-relationships around its harsh robotic subjects.

Thursday| 22.12.11
SARAH&CHARLES' LIVING ROOM
'The gloomy atmosphere of one man and his guitar, heedlessly playing his masterly tunes in our living room, performing with the uttermost concentration and in total oblivion of his surroundings…seems like fun to us and more reason to party'

20:30h
Spookhuisje: CONCERT
Don't miss this bone-chilling performance of Brussels most gifted guitar player. Influenced by Indian raga-masters and Jimi Hendrix guitar riffs, Spookhuisje's concert of drones and psychedelic reverberations, will haunt you till the rest of your days.

ongoing throughout the festival
Ricardo Basbaums' WOULD YOU LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN AN ARTISTIC EXPERIENCE? is an ongoing project by involving the circulation of a painted steel object, a multiple with more than 20 copies, around the world each hosted by individuals or groups for a period of time (around one month). Participants make use of the object for their own experimental project, which is documented and added to the Would you like…? growing archive, www.nbp.pro.br.
